Modul4r Series - Liqu1d 1.0.1

Photobucket

This device is a spin off from my work on Isotonik 7, it's a fully functional Looping and Follow Action device....

You can set a one, two or four bar loop....Halve or Double it's length by moving the loop start or loop end point, and you can also move the loop forwards or backwards by a bar or by it's length...

Once you've finished looping the Follow Action functionality ensures the next clip you have chosen is triggered, you can set and forget the action chosen or create different actions for each clip using the clip envelopes...

It's also possible, again globally or by clip, to trigger the next, previous, same or a numbered scene when the clip ends or is stopped....

Available for download for the Modul4r Series subscribers now!!

Isotonik 7 - B3ta Update - Mid1

I bought an APC40 from DV247 when they had their first shipment in, actually taking the demo unit from the store rather than waiting... Less than 24 hours later i was hacking into it with the excellent bome midi translator (my templates are now part of the bome's package when purchasing the product but can also be downloaded from www.darren.bome.com) and using a combination of Reaktor and Lucifer to do various effects...

Since my adventure with M4L began i've barely looked back and when it came to the final scene of my Octop4d device that gave the user 8 pages of midi assignable pads i remembered how useful it was to be able to simply midi map things on the fly without having to get into code...

Octop4d works by giving the user 64 pads that send midi cc's from 0 to 63 with a fixed velocity of 127 when on and 0 when off, i've helped a few users with custom jobs who wanted to reprogram the pads to specific midi messages and custom lighting so i realise that one size does not fit all, in fact when i was creating my original Bomes template it was only possible as i had a nanokontrol to the side of me that i could quickly edit it's midi output to allow simple mapping that i'd replicate with the APC40....

So...

Photobucket

The latest scene i'm building (which'll be scene 5 perversely so i've missed three and four) is called Mid1 and will be a user configurable bank of midi pads, when in Isotonik mode (the master select button lit) selecting the fifth scene with the scene launch buttons will give over the right hand half of the APC40 to your own assignments. Using the Clip Stop and Track Select buttons on tracks 5 to 8 will move between 8 banks of messages, each can be uniquely configured.

I've made it a simple affair for programming and you creations will be saved within the set as you'd expect. You can choose whether a button (limited to the clip launch buttons for now) acts as a momentary or toggle, if you move banks or change scenes and return the lighting will indicate which pads are still on (unlike the nanokontrol!). You then choose what lighting you'd like when the midi message is being sent or not, the midi channel, the midi cc and finally the velocity of the message when pushed and released...

More seasoned Max4Live programmers will appreciate the clear layout of the device which will enable them to further customise the design to include things such as group buttons whereby the press of one turns others off etc.

Those of you that have followed the development of my devices will be able to predict what comes next, following completion of Isotonik 7 the spin off will be the editing function integrated to the Octop4d and a Modul4r device that hands over the whole of the clip launch grid of the APC40 to your own midi assignments, switchable as with Isotonik so that the main functionality remains....

As ever the B3ta is being tested by a crack team without a manual so that i can write one from the users point of view rather than the developers! This device will when released be available to all members of the Isotonik M4ster Template....

Two scenes to go, i wonder....

Isotonik 7 - B3ta Update

Photobucket

Ok so now two scenes are nearing completion...

Loop3r:
1, Set a 1, 2 or 4 bar on a clip
2, Move it forwards or backwards by a bar or by it's length
3, Double or halve it by moving the start or end loop point
4, Using the fader reduce it in size by moving the end point, quantized to a movement per 1/8th of a beat and will always move the end point to an 1/8th of a bar resolution....
5, Visual indication of the looping status of the playing clip on the APC40 Green = Clip set to loop but not yet in loop brace, Orange = Set to Loop and currently in loop brace, Red = Set to Loop but playing position has past loop end point and so clip will just end!

Eff3cts:
1, A 2 bar Slicer allowing you to capture slices in 1/8ths and playing them back Glitch style reducing the size of the slice using a fader
2, A G8ter effect synced to the size of the Slice
3, Turntable Reverse, the speed controlled by a fader
4, Turntable Brake, lenght of slow down controlled by the fader
5, Hold button, which turns the Slic3r buttons into toggles rather than the standard momentary...

In addition added to the encoders:

1, Reset Quantize, the ability for the user to set the reset functionality to only hit the dials it controls on a quantized basis...

Obviously more to come, the finished version will ba available to all subscribers of the Isotonik M4ster Template....

Any questions fire away!

Isotonik 7 - B3ta

Hi Everyone,

Isotonik 7 is now in development and at a very early stage, i'm basing it on the last couple of months of roadtesting of the elements i really used of Isotonik 6 and ensuring i can streamline everything from a speed and CPU perspective... Here's a few glimpses of what i've done so far as to a clue of it's functionalities planned....

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

It'll be a four track focused device utilising half of the Grid Launch buttons in standard mode with the other half dedicated to additional functionality over the first four tracks...

It's also going to have as much of it as possible left for configuration by the end user so it can be adapted to their needs as time progresses...

If you're interested in being the first on board when it's released then you need to be a subscriber to the Isotonik Template using the button on the right...

There are now three distinct products with APC40 users being looked after by Isotonik and Launchpad users having Octop4d, i'll keep returning to both and updating them as subscribers benefit from lifetime upgrades, in addition the Modul4r series which focuses on devices that can be simply midi mapped will continue to benefit from spin off devices...

I'm also hoping to produce something for Livid Instruments CODE controller in the near future...

Octop4d - Max4Live Device for Novations Launchpad

Hi All,

I've been working for the last few months on a device that would turn my Novation Launchpad into a true partner for my APC40.

My aim for this device was to create 8 scenes of functionality accessable through User 2 Mode...

Each scene is mulitlayered with the use of the Scene Launch Buttons and Bank Select Buttons...

Shuffl3r - A fully controllable alternative to Max4Lives Buffer Shuffler allowing you to arrange audio on the fly, reverse or mute slices in 1/8ths...

Eff3cts - Think of a beat repeat that can do quantized repeats at 64ths, 32nds, 16ths, 8ths, 1/4rs and half bars, now think of being able to trigger it at any eighth of the last bar so you can catch the snare, the kick etc. Add to the scen a set of tempo synced Gater's / Filters and Bit Crush effects. And finally 4 different speed Turnatable Stops and Reverses...

Loop3r - With control of the 8 tracks in the clip launch rectangle of either the Launchpad or an Akai APC40 you can get visual indication of clips that are playing and are able to set a bar, 2 bars, 4 bars or an 8 bar loop. Once set (works on existing loops as well) you can halve or double the length of the loop by choosing to move either the end or the start point of the loop. You can also shift the loop brace backwards or forwards, by a bar at a time or by the length of the loop itself...

S3nd / R3turn - With the clip launch grid and the bank select buttons you can choose to take control of 1 send across 8 tracks or 8 sends on 1 track or alternatively take control of the 8 macros of a rack within one of your return tracks. The buttons act as toggles in that you can jump straight to a value and back to zero with two presses giving you the ability to stab audio to a return track, great when used with any form of delay effect, try it with a ping pong delay and catch the snare...!

M1di - Today there are 8 pages of midi buttons, starting at cc0 and going up to cc63 per page you can set the buttons to work on a momentary or toggle basis, with an IAC Driver on a MAC or Midi Yoke for Windows these buttons can be mapped directly within Live or used to control a drumrack. This scene however is fully customisable to create any mapping you'd like with any lighting feedback possible, group buttons, have sliders, create an X/Y grid with Z feedback when you press a button, i'm more than happy to offer support to anyone wanting to create their own, think of it like an advanced midi editor (it's not that pretty but it works seamlessly)

Drumr4ck - This is a simple step sequencer type device that works with a R3ceiver device placed before a drum rack, it gives you control over 8 banks of 8 samples that you can trigger on the 8ths of a bar (swing is controllable as well). The different banks can be selected manually by using the scene launch buttons or the Receiver device can be configured to jump to a particular bank when you launch a specific clip, maybe when you launch an acapella you can have the sample chopped up into 1/8ths to add to the overall mix...

Util1ty - Using Live api calls and keystroke emulation this scene is what i use when i'm constructing DJ sets, i need to quickly change views so all that you think of are selectable, i need to be able to warp clips quickly so one button sets 1.1.1 here and warps straight from that point, i can cut copy paste, switch windows to Itunes, open and focus on the browser and load clips from there, theres too many to list so i've detailed them in the manual...

That makes 7 scenes so far with one to go, user testing has meant i'm already at version 1.3.3 of the device and will continue to develop it as time progresses, as it dovetails nicely with my APC40 i find that i don't use every scene in every set i play but i switch between a few and leave the launchpad sitting there as the perfect partner to my main control surface...

I'd recommend a minimum of 3GB of RAM for running the device and it's been created in Live 8.2.1 with Max 5.1.7.

The end of the video acts as a set up guide to show you how to crate your own template using Octop4d, the Receiver and Windows Midi Receiver which are all ready for download from the shared folder that you can subscribe to buy using the OCtop4d Buy Now button on the right...
