Follow Action at Clip End + Momentary Dummy Clips

One of the biggest changes i'd like to see made to Ableton is the ability to have a follow action at clip end.... With my first Isotonik modular device a simple affair called F0llow this is achieved....

As i was developing the device it struck me thanks to a reminder with WillJMarshall's DJ Template Redux that it's been a while since i toyed with dummy clips, again i dropped these in the past because i couldn't quite achieve what i wanted with them e.g. momentary control, i wanted clips set to gate that would effect the signal as long as they were pressed but when released all effects should return to zero. There is a cool workaround if you just want to turn an effect on and off but if you wanted more complicated patterns this became impossible without some midi loopback business occuring...

The brief video below demonstrates how the new feature works solving both problems...

The device is available to all members of the Isotonik dropbox, membership of which is a simple click of the paypal buy now button to the right...

Hello,

I'm interested with the follow 1.0.1. Can you tell me how i can get it? How much it cost and also if it is working with other controllers than the apc40.

Thank you so much

Hi Guys,

F0llow is part of the Isotonik Template dropbox, i don't have any plans to release the devices indivdually at the minute but this may change if there is enough demand...

The F0llow, Gl1tch and Sm4rt devices featured on the blog work without an APC40....

Hello Darren,

I'd like to use F0llow in a DJing context where I do transitions between basicly 2 songs.
I split up each song into several clips (of different lenghts) so that the song is represented by the clips playing one after another in an ableton track. Therefore I'd use the 'Below Mode'.

Now I'd like to configure specific clips in that playing clip order that when triggered to play change the Mode to 'Again' and loop. This way I would have more control over the progress of the song .. playing some clips in a row and changing the mode to 'again' at the end of a clip group or someting.

Do you think a setting like 'loop clip at clip group end' would be possible?

I dont see why not, it'd take a few more objects is all, one to check if the clip below is a clip and then a formula that you could have on or off (like the follow action at clipstop option)

I'll have a look at it in the next few days....

Hey Darren,

that sounds great.

What group do I have to join to get this module? Is it the "Ableton Isotonik Template for M4L" link or the "Ableton Isotonik Modular Series for M4L" link I have to click?

I don't have M4L yet either. I read something about maybe a M4L runtime will be available. Do you know anything about that? If not F0llow is definately the reason now to get M4L now :)

Thanks

The device is in both groups, the template one includes a full live pack along with the individual devices focused on use with an APC40....

And sadly no i dont know anything about an ML runtime :-(

Hello Darren,

I searched your blog but couldn't find infos about what the exact components are in the "Ableton Isotonik Template for M4L" package.

In a recent post you wrote about the "Ableton Isotonik Modular Series for M4L" package content .. that is: F0llow, Gl1tch, R3turn.

Do you think the complete Isotonik template would be usable for me even if I don't own an APC40 (but instead other controllers, e.g. VCM-600, monomes etc.)? I know I'd had to midi remap a lot of functionality, what of course is ok for me respectively I'm happy that I'm able to midi map :)
I'm asking because in your videos I saw that in the complete template there's a lot of additional cool stuff, e.g. racks like "DJM vs. A&H" or effect racks on the return tracks .. which I'd love to get as well .. IF it's possible to use the template not owning an APC40.

Hi Mate,

yes it's possible to use the template without an APC40 however the main Isotonik plugin is not midi mappable currently.....

This will probably change in a future revision someway down the line but i'm concentrating on the APC for the meantime....
