APC40 Control Surface - DJ Edition Pt III (Fingeresque?)
I hope you like the video, each revision is taking me deeper into max4live so i'm a couple of learning curves away from finishing this but i'd rather let people have a go whilst it's developing....
Great work so far. This thing has tons of potential. You've built functionality that the LIVE engineeers should have included natively in 8.x.
My issue: When I have this patch loaded on two tracks, changing the scene of one track changes the other track's scene as well. Is this by design? Ideally, they should be completly independant. I've tried various master\slave combinations. I'm gussing\hoping I'm just missing something obvious.
Next issue: Was the scene 2 issue resolved, where the 'loop off' button stops the clip? If so, anyone know the solution? 'loop off' appears to turn off the clip entirely, not just the loop.
Upon closer examination, the 'clip stop' button appears to provide two functions. One function, across all scenes, is to perform the action listed on the patch's context specific menu button. The other less fortunate function of this 'clip stop' button, appears to be to ruin your mix by stopping the current clip in focus :(
As usual the obvious alludes me so I'm sure I'm missing something easy. Thoughts?
Yes the first part of the patch functionality is that there is a global change of scene so that you know what each of the buttons across the whole set are controlling....
On the clips stopping isue it sounds like your patch hasn't loaded properly as the clip stop buttons are totally blocked, you may need to midi map the load button to the tap tempo button and then press and hold it for a couple of seconds before releasing to make sure it's loaded properely then press shift on and off, select a different tack to the one your on and finalyy change scenes (that way you've brought all instances of the patch in sync)
1 Regarding scene duplication across tracks- not sure I understand. Are you saying that it's not possible to have multiple instances of this device across separate racks with different scenes on each track? If it is possible, then master track 1 and 2-8 slaves should be the usable configuration?
2 Regarding the clip stop issue, I did try the load trick- still stopping the clip. Anything else I can try?
Here's a seemingly viable reacharound for the clip stopping issue I mentioned earlier. Before loading the patch, manually midi map Live's clip stop to some other physical button on the APC. This disables the APC's clip stop button from stopping the clip and can now be used safely in Darren's patch.
So my clipstop workaround is not viable, as it also destroys the functionality of the button in the patch. I guess it may be possible to move the functionality of the clip stop buttons someplace else, physically up one row but I don't know what that takes in terms of mods in the MAX editor. Am I the only one that has the issue of the clip stop buttons stopping the clip?
No experience in editing m4l patches. Pretty new to Live and its framework. As a test I did install Live+m4l on a completely different machine to determine if I had a screwy install but I get the same result even with the different machine: clip stop buttons still stop clips.
I im searching for your Ableton template for apc40 and i look you send it when the people send you a message, thks for ur help! Sorry for my english, im from spain, xD Cheers!
One major issue I've discovered with the APC40\Live intergration is that if you select a Track in the APC this doesn't select/focus the CLIP that is actually playing on that track. This is MAJOR if you have the nudge mapped to a clip so you can correct minor flaws. It basically means you need to use the mouse to select focus before you can nudge.
Has anyone found a workaround for this or Darren: can you use your mad M4L ninja skills to fix this?
Good call Dave, I have a button reserved for Clip or track focus so you can hot jump there in one press, it should work a bit like a solo button to be honest, the original plan was to have metronome plus track select would take you to the clip view of the correct track but i've since used that to change the parameter being controlled by the left rack.... Let me look into firstly how to do it and then whether the actual shift button plus the track select could work, for me it's gotta be as intuitive as possible which is why much of the activator and rec arm functionality is as yet unmapped....
hey darren, Hi Derren, I have about 2-3 hours looking in the internet for your killer apc presets... then i read your text again and then I hated myself. please please send me all your presets & i will be fucking happy everytime when i start to make music... please... biggest greetz from germany.. PS again, thanks for the great module!

It looks like it mate, have you gone into the disabler patcher within the main patch and manually clicked the clip stop buttons disabling object?
Other than that i don't know what to suggest? You're using the latest versions of ableton (beta4?) and M4L?
I should've realised that when you midi map it overwrites any control surface message stuff that operates under the surface.....

Using Live 8.1.1 and m4l 5.1.2

D,
Not sure if you got my reply to your email but set_stop_clip_track_buttons id 0 in the Pdisabler subpatcher did the trick regarding false clipstops.
Thanks,
Dave
